Thanks!
Good luck to your project!
Good luck to your project!
hi
i have to say that this threat is really full of very important information. i have decided to buy new lens for my depos and then use my stock xenon-parts (ballasts, wires, philips colormatch bulbs). i've heard the stock ballasts are better than the cheap asian versions, the wires are better quality and the bulbs (philips colormatch with 3200 lm) are of course much better than all the other blue ones (philips ultinon 2400lm, no names with 6000k or 8000k...have less lm).
good job benz'z!

I bought Depo headlight, projectors, bulbs, and ballasts from Ebay more than half year ago, and I don't really remember the exact number I paid. I would said around $700. But, I think the price of Depo is dropped. It is a good news for you.
2 silicon, $13 from Kragen.
The small parts, around $15 from HomeDepot.
The material cost is around $725.
I hope it helps.

i have to wait two weeks until i get my lenses.
then i'll start with my tuning-session
would be great if you can post some pics of your headlight at night to see if there is a difference to the bad quality headlight with the stock depo lens.

the Depo halogen projector photo I posted above came (from memory) off a
203 model. mine (from 210) wasn't as scattered, and looked a bit more
symetrical. nonetheless, it was still baaaad.
here is photo from my E55 projector dropped into Depo. foreground is much
more intense, even and satisfying.

Hi, Raymond,
I feel your lighting output is brighter than mine.
I will take picture later.

hmm, I dunno why, B. the only thing I can think of is the Maxima vs E55
projector differences which should be minor. i've not done an A<>B with
these two units though.
yeah, would like to see photos from yours. am pretty sure i didn't play around
with the camera settings to make things look brighter or anything.
i have the rest of the week off so let's see if i can get off my butt and finish
the RS6 retrofit.
am trying to squeeze in flight review and get current on my flying too but the
weather sux so maybe I'll just go to the project bench instead.

@raymond
your headlight looks awesome!
@benz
is it really necessary to put the depos in the oven to remove the glass or is it also possible to change lenses without doing that?
i'll take pics of my headlight in about three weeks, then i'm going to upgrade my hid.
i have the stock xenon and i'll use all of the stock xenon parts including philips colormatch bulbs. yesterday i bought bi-xenon lenses from a w203 c-class (2005), i'm looking forward to take some pics of my light output

Heat-gun, or hair dryer might help. But, it is hard to soften all the gray glue at one time.
Without remove the clear lens, you "might" take out the Depo projector without damage anything, but the round shroud on the projector will drop in the front. Also, after cutting the projector opening, you will need to clean the headlight; then, you will have to find the way to put the round shroud on the E55 projector again.
In my opinion, putting the depo in the oven and remove the clear lens "might" be an easier way.
I hope it help.

tnx, j. this has been a great thread and has shown Depo (plain), Depo with
HID kit, and Depo with E55 bixenon fitted...and how to put one together.
thanks, everyone, for contributing.
I've saved this thread into a single PDF in case anyone wants a standalone
document to use at home. This ensures that the photos remain intact...as
some links can expire over time. It's a 3mb file so be sure your emailer will
accept that large a file. PM me if you canwant...or willing to host.

the metal cutoff blade is positioned at 6 o'clock, ie towards the bottom of
the headlight housing. after the light passes through the focusing lens, it
inverts = it covers the top of the viewing picture = it masks so as not to
blind drivers above a predetermined and adjusted level of cutoff.
in other words, the solenoid relay should be positioned at the bottom of
the headlight housing.
here is RS6 projector (dont have E55 on hand)

my DEPO's are on order.
however, I have a question:
does anyone know if these BMW e46 projectors fit?
i'm pretty sure they're 3" projectors but they're made by AL?
TIA!

just about any projector 'will fit'. the critical specification and determination
is how much labor/effort is needed to mount the projector cleanly, accurately
and which allows for adjustment if off rotational center. fabricating a mount
is the majority of the work.
with the E55, the ease is #1 on a scale of 1 to 10 and can take less than 60
mins for both.
with the RS6, it may take 2x that, depending on the mounting technique you
choose.
for all the other projectors, figure on much (much) more time....and factor
in that much more cutting, fabricating, JBWelding, etc will be involved.
specific to the E46, I'd PM Zam2000 on the chance that he's had hands-on
with this vis a vis Depo/W210
