98 W210 E300TD air in fuel lines

Hello I have a 1998 W210 E300TD with OM606 engine (280'000 miles on the clock) and have just got through my first tank of 80% recycled cooking oil (WVO) mixed with 20% diesel.

I've been told the first few tanks of WVO will pick up all the crud in the fuel tank and deposit it in the filters so they will need changing once or twice during the first few tanks. Today the engine was spluttering quite badly and cut out but I got it going again so I guess they are blocking up already. Now there seems to be air bubbles in the fuel lines - I posted a vid here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMbkjx_3cfk and you can just make out the bubbles. Could this be caused by the partially blocked filters or could it be something worse?

what micron rating is the filter you are using to filter the wvo? With no additional heat in your tank its possible that the WVO has gelled and that is why you have fuel starvation. Your filters are clogged up and your fuel tank is contaminated. You might have to pump out your diesel tank before you get algae blooms etc. Its a bad move to just pour WVO in your tank without adding additional heat (at the very least). I am not sure where you got this idea that straight pouring WVO in your tank was a good one.

Did you pour WVO or biodiesel into your tank? A few points on what you need to know about each type of alternative fuel:
-WVO does NOT have cleaning properties. So, your fuel filters are not clogged as a result of the gunk in your tank being loosened up.
-Biodiesel does have cleaning properties. Biodiesel is the cause of loosening up a lot of crud that has accumulated in your diesel tank after years of use.

The OM606 fuel systems are known to have seal problems. They can accumulate air once a seal starts to fail. There is an autopurge function in the fuel system that helps to "get you along" until the system has too many air leaks.

Replace your fuel lines and seals. If problems still persist, then post the symptoms on the forum and we can help you trouble shoot from there.

FYI- I agree with Husk. I would suggest never putting WVO directly into your fuel tank. You need to modify your fuel system so that you don't ruin your engine.
