adding a subwoofer?

Ok guys, I've been searching here and benzworld since about 9am, and I'm still confused. I've read damn near every thread regarding this, and every thread has conflicting statements, and not a whole lot of any concrete information. It's getting really frustrating.

My question is: how do I go about adding just a single subwoofer with aftermarket amp without removing any of the factory Bose system or changing headunits?

My immediate thought would be an RCA converter that connects to the rear speakers to provide the signal, and has RCA outputs for an amp. In certain threads I read the voltage is too high to use one of these, then in other threads some say thats what they are using. So which is it?

Anyting you guys can provide in the way of info is greatly appreciated!

dude!! WAT!!?

don't listen to that crapi ran two Alpine 1242w 12's and a 1000/1 Jl Amp In my E420 and it was absolutly amazing! i did it myself too!!

now here, buy and RCA convertor, crimp the wires on the right side rear sub in the rear deck, u will have to dig for the wires, once u to that, run the power from battery, the under the seat where the battery is located, and through the back seat around the gas tank, i did that too, you will have to take out the right side trunk panels to get in there, once that is done, sand or scrape the paint off the rear deck, and drill a nice hole to fit the ground. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE BARE METAL FOR YOUR GROUNDING AREA, not doing this you will result in your amp not turning on. or doing worse damage, make sure all cables are stable and tight, or fastened. once that is done simply wire it all up and your set! it will be fine. any convertor will work cuz the stock amp filters the bass. don't do anything to the stock speaker setup, once you run the sub adjust the amp vol. and you can even control the bass from the stock headunit.

GOOD LUCK! if you need help

let me know!

God Bless

It is all right but you will need the AMP control wire (blue ) you can find that at you stock AMP it is blue color
You will get dead battery if not going to do that
Just take the right cover in the trunk and you will see the AMP in there take the main plug out find the blue wire and take the tester and turn ignition on make sure it is hot and dead when the ignition is off
Get that wire split with the AMP that you install they will turn on and off together
You don’t need to change any fuse the one you got it is enough
So good lack if you have more questions post them …………….

It may not be blue? Or there may be another blue. I would try all the wires in the bundle and follow the guideline in the quote..

thanks for the replys guys....when you say the right side panel, do you mean driver side? or pass side?

the wire i tapped was the only blue wire in the harness labeled as "AMP" on the driver side.

i couldnt find any other blue wire there, and the way the plug is setup, it seemed it might be tough or impossible to toss the multi-meter on it.

ill grab a pic tonight of where i tapped, and see what i can do with the multi-meter.
