got in my 2002 e320 tonight to take a spin since I've been gone a week on vacation and I turn the key and................nothing. Batery fully charged, doesn't crank, turn over, nothing but this stupid message.

You've had that message forever, of course, and it has nothing to do with fact car won't crank.

Likely neutral safety switch problem.

Had the same problem with mine once when I left town for a few days. Turned out that although the battery was fully charged and was showing the correct voltage, it wasn't putting out the correct CCAs anymore. I couldn't even jump start the car. Bought a new battery as a last resort, and I haven't had a problem since.
