My 96 has the headlight washer option, but I wish it didn't. On a car with rounded headlights and no headlight wipers, it really makes no sense. I have only used them to see if they were functional when I bought the car. The 210 front end has a smoother, less cluttered look without them.

Headlight Wipers are a thing of the past. Just like Halogen headlamps. Xenon and Washers are in. I always feel sorry for W210 owners without Xenon and Washers. Without those features the car has no character and awful yellow lights.

Washer are very useful in snow states.

Haha, this tops my list of useless features. For the washers to be needed, you would have to be slogging through mud deeper than the car could handle, even if so inclined.
Or, you never wash the car. Ever.

The one time I tried them, I had to wash the car anyway in order to get the 3 gallons of blue fluid off the hood.

The Washer is Good because...

If you have the heated seats, you then get a complete set of accessory buttons across the top row. Gives that symmetry look.

Again, not really useless in snow states. That is why they are required in Germany for HID lamps. The scenorio when they come in handy are - driving cross country on a long trip or daily and thru snow - your headlamps get really dirty and covered up. You don't stop or have time to wash your car. Without them you would have to stop and clean them by hand to have any visability.

During the last snow here after a couple of days I had to clean the lamps on my truck of course by hand. They were filthy.

I wish my E55 had heated outside mirrors.

I drive in the snow and never had to use them, so it's just my opinion. However, I thought you do have heated mirrors when you turn on the windshield defroster, don't you?

I have the Xenon lights and headlamp washers. Given that I'm in Texas I've never used them since we get no snow. I've heard that part of the reason they are part of the xenon package is that if the headlamps get covered up by mud or snow it will burn out the xenon. Don't know if that's true or not. I think they are cool, but they really make a mess on your hood.

Maybe some folks don't realize how dirty and dim lamps become in snow. There is no question that the headlights lose there effectiveness driving in snow - hence the washers.

Not sure about the heated outside mirrors on W210. I will check my owners manual.

That is why you use them too remove snow and mud. The hood is already messy.

I think they are cool also. I would never buy a car without Xenon nor Washer if the option is available. Washer option is found on most German cars - Mercedes, BMW, Audi. Also on Lexus & Jaguar with HID in Europe.

Headlight washer

thanks for all your comments. I am in the process of upgrading my lights to xenon and think its a good idea to have headlight washer installed as well!

Nevertheless, has anyone out there done this mod before?

Thanks again.

Mirrors Are Heated

Per page 84 of my 2001 E series manual: "The exterior mirrors have electrically heated glass. The heater switches on automatically, depending on outside temperature."

It was my understanding that all in Europe, cars equipped with Xenon headlights are required to have washers, or washer/wipers. I don't know if there is a similar regulation in the US, but in any case, they come as a combination here. Actually, I hardly use mine, because it sprays all over.
