where is battery for 1996 E320?
I think its time to replace the battery, but have some questions:
1. Where is the darn thing?
2. Can I replace with aftermarket battery, if so, what is recommended?
3. How much does dealer charge for OEM battery?

under the rear seat (passenger side). there is a plastic latch on the outermost sides of the seat that you must release first. then the seat bottom slides out as one big piece.
around $120 from the dealer

i don't know of any aftermarket, never looked into it. probably don't want to do that b/c you want a perfect fit and don't want to risk any acid leak, especially inside the cabin...

an import
You should be fine as long as you get a maintenace free, completely sealed battery. I've had good success with Interstate in previous cars and I've heard that the ones from Sears are really robust.
Make sure that you get the right size and all should be good.

Battery replacement
I agree with M Brabus; after-market batteries always seem to be dimensionally different and never fit or mount like the OEM battery.
With my luck, the dollars I try to save by buying after-market is usually offset by having to go to two or three stores and then I have to return it anyway because it doesn't fit correctly...
