I bought my car to keep for 10 years or 120k miles.

Its been 10years and 110k miles and I'm keeping her to 15 years or 150k. If the next five go as well as the first ten, I might keep her to 20/200

I'm keeping mine until the day I die. I love this car.

*If* I ever tire of driving it to work daily I'll build a strong engine for it, twin turbo it, beef up the drivetrain/suspension, and go spank some 'Vette's.

I had two W210s - a 1999 E55 and a 2001 E55. I do miss them both. I didn't have any problems out of either of them at all other than a fog lamp here and there. I now have a W211 CDI and really like this car, but I really like the simplicity of the W210. At the prices they are selling for I would really like to own another one as a daily driver. That are great driving, solid (assuming rust free, which I didn't have a problem with on neither of mine) well built cars with nice features. I do see another one in my future - but probably need to find my 1990 190E and 1983 300D new homes first...

Might go for another E55, or an E430.

In a nutshell, I never got tired of the W210!

Trade or Keep?

I don't know if I'll keep it for life but anything else in my opinion would be a step down. My 2001 E430 Designo Expresso Edition makes it pretty hard to trade "up" to anything. The matched grain Elm wood and the congac Nappa leather seats are second to none aside from that of perhaps a Bently or Rolls. It is an refined, spirited road car that dishes out loads of V8 power with V6 MPG as I just recently averaged 28 MPG. I think I'll hang on to it for a while, besides, I never seen another one just like mine. This one turns a lot of heads...

Love the designo models... I saw at one time a 2000 or 2001 E55 AMG that had a silver exterior (wasn't Brilliant Silver) and GREEN interior! I would loved to have bought that car - it was for sale and was very reasonable but I had other commitments at the time.

They are different and like you said - you never see them.

I haven't seen another one like that since.

Many of you may not be aware that you are quite the collection of losers, as noted by the Pontiac GTO crowd now getting flogged in Kill Stories.

2002 E430 4MATIC
Just upgraded from a 1997 e420 to a 2002 E430 4-matic. Owned the 97 since new but couldn't justify the $ on a new one again. Rust proved the demise of Ol' 97 and the stickers that declared the air bags as "expired" bothered me.
Plan to keep the '02 for at least 5 years.
I must say though that the 420 was a sweeter engine. The 430 is just as quick but lacks that electric motor feel.

well...I drive a 2000 E55...I considered trading her in for W211 E55....but my car has been trouble free for the last 3 years except for a spark plug wire! I've read and heard some horror stories about all but the last couple of years of the W211 E55...She'll be in my life a long time...

My '96 E320 has 88K miles on it, I have all of the problems that other owners talked about (1) rusty spring perches.. this is a major safety issue, done and paid by MB at 67K miles - car was 9 yrs old then (2) head gasket problem at 76K miles - out of my pocket (3) head gasket problem again at 88K miles, indy only paid 50% to replace it (4) several rusted body spots

I will keep this car until I throw it out, hopefully 200K+ miles and then I will upgrade, but for sure it's not MB, it WILL be either Lexus or BMW... I gave MB a chance, but it let me down, so MB has lost a customer... Back in 1978 when I got out of college, I supported American-made car so I bought a brand new '78 Monty, it's a piece of junk... So no more American car... Car mfg companies have to earn my trust, period.

My E320 is my daily driver. 182K miles, and going strong.

I had to replace the left cat, and that's it outside of routine stuff. I will get the transmission drained and have new fluid put in at the MB shop next service.

A few minor things: the subwoofer is blown: What size it that?
The right outside mirror needs replacement.

Not bad for a 98 huh?

You will spend the rest of your life changing cars if that is the case. Anyone can make a bad car no matter the manufacturer. The early W210 cars do have some "bugs" but are good driving cars overall. I think you will experience more quirks with BMW from what I have read about them (even though they are great driving cars) and don't even mention Lexus unless you want a car with no soul. But that's just opinion.

If manufacturers have ever earned my "trust" it would be Ford. I have an Explorer with 213k miles with virtually NO issues. O2 sensor, radiator hose, heater blower motor. That's it. Still runs as good as the day I got it. Never goes through tires or brakes (over 80k on tires). Best vehicle I have ever owned period. Uses no oil. I have no doubt it will go 300k.

No A/C compressor, starter, water pump, alternator, any of that stuff...

My problem is to decide whether to keep the 96 E320 which has 112K or 99 S500 with 32K 4life. Both are well built vehicles and my wife nags me constantly why I have to keep both. However she prefer driving the S500 more than the E320.

Personally I can't get rid of the S500 as i am a fan of S with owing 450SE, 380SE in the past. Nothing compares to S which were build before 2000. I am not quite a fan of the new S, however I like the CLS more which may not be desirable for many.
