White Licence Plate LED DIY (THIS SHOULD NOT BURN OUT!!)
I loved the look of the white license plate leds, but always had problems with them. They always burnt out and **** because they were festoons.
Whitey Told me he was using ribbon strips and was using for over 2 years! my lights wouldn't work for more then 2 weeks!
Alright so here it is, the way to get White led license plate led's without problems and without lamp defective!
Ok first go here http://www.oznium.com/led-ribbon and buy about 1 or 2 feet of the Cool White Led Ribbon strips.
OK first start by taking out the License plate bulb holders.

Then Take out the metal tabs that hold the festoon bulbs in the licence plate bulb holders. Take a Popsicle stick and measure it across and cut it so it fits in securely.

Now Cut one strip out of your LED Ribbon strip. You should cut it on the dotted lines with the scissors. You should have cut out a small strip with 3 leds on it. After you cut it out, solder wires to the ribbon strip, one to positive and one to negative, then take off the adhesive backing and place it on your Popsicle stick that you have already cut.

Now You can put the Popsicle stick with your LED Ribbon strip back in the bulb holder. it should fit well and securely. If not, just add glue or something.

Now go back to the car and cut off the original connectors and just connect the wires to each other. i used butt connectors for it.

Now ur Light should work. But u will get the lamp defective error. So I went out and got 10watt 100ohm ceramic resistors and put them in as well. I got them from this website http://www.electronicplus.com/conten...=RE&subcat=REG

Now tape the resistors to the frame inside the trunk lid or whatever so they dont clunk around and make noise. They dont get very hot so you dont have to worry. Put the bulb holders and everything back in and you are done!

Simple and looks great! if you have leftover ribbon you can use it in other places in the car.

LOL! Great write up. I didn't do the popsicle thing and just rammed it in there. If I'm not mistaken, you'd only just done one row of 3 LEDs each side? I actually did 6 LEDs/side connecting them with short bits of wire at the ends, you'll find the effect is much better
good job and good luck on those working better than the stupid festoons
Mines still going strong.
PS remember to stick the resistors (with 3M) against something that won't melt and from their heat, away from something that might.
