What to look for when buying

Hello everyone I am interested in getting a used w210 what are good model years? I was looking into a 98 or 99 e320. A e420 is not of the question if the price is right. But I do have a few questions.... Are the w210 cars pretty reliable? Are they expensive to maintain? Hows gas on either the e320 or e430? Anything that I should look for. This would be my first German vehicle(I'm a ford and chevy type of guy) so I dont want to run into problems after paying 7-8k cash on a vehicle. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Always, always make sure that you can obtain all maintenance records. If it's a 320, make sure the harmonic balance pulley recall has been performed. For W210, it'd be better if you could find a face-lift model, i.e. 2000-2002.

I'll refer you to a thread that lists common problems to look out for: https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...roblems+common

Good luck on your pursuit to a nice W210. You'll be very happy with what you find, as long as you're informed and know what to expect.

98 E320 99 E430 w/mods
Hey welcome to the site. I have both a 98 320 and 99 430w/ mods. My favorite is the 430. 300 hp HR springs Koni adjustable shocks 18" mono blocks ... its a rocket. still avg 24mpg. The 320 is a daily driver VERY reliable if you maintain them. 26 mpg avg. If you can DIY both cars are very easy to maintain. There are numerous sites you can get info from. The best advice prior to buying is INSPECT, INSPECT, INSPECT.. MB's have numerous onboard systems that a person can access to check for problems. Check the MB sites. Ask questions and good luck...
