Rear Sun Shade

On my 1997 E-420 the rear sun shade does not go down any more.

This week on Monday I put the rear power sun shade up, today I tryed to bring it down but it is not moving.

Has anyone else seen this problem with their rear power sun shade before?

Can the rear sunsahde power motor go bad? Or maybe the switch in the consol can go bad?

Where is the fuse for sun shade? Is it under the rear seat or on the driver's side panel? Is it in the engine under the hood?

I have similar problem with the rear sunshade in my S500. Move the two lifting arms of the shade inwards manually to see if they were stuck in the track. By moving the arms manually actually free up the movement.

Give it a try, if it works then oil the track for easy movement of the lifting arms.

000-668 thanks. I try what you recommended, but no luck.

I went and checked the fuse for rear sun shade, all good.

I also checked the switch in central consol all working and making good contact.

The only thing is left to check is the motor on sun shade.

Do any one know how to reach in back to check the motor on rear sun shade?

How you remove the rack? From trunk or you have to remove the rear seat?

I want to get my hand on this 12 VDC motor for rear sun shande, but I don't know where is located and how to access it.

Any DIY will be great help.

Hi, I don't have the schematic for the E320 rear sunshade. The electrical sunshade is in my S500 which is different setup than for E320. The rack is underneath the hat shelf and for S500, the back of the seat needs to be removed to lift the hat shelf out of the way to see the motor assembly for the sunshade.

It is working again. Only thing I did was to left my car in drive way in night and night temperature was in low 40° F. In the morning the motor was slow but I was able to put sun shande down.

I try again in after noon and no luck.

Next night I parked car out side again, in morning sunshade motor was strong going up and down.

Look like it is motor now. When the temperature is cold the winding in armature get shrunk and get good contact, afternoon warm weather and bad or no contact and it does not work.

Small tiny 12 VDC motor is costing me $200. Do any one got one or know where to get one for $10 or $20 bucks?
