This morning my Check Engine Light came on, and in the computer display it reads "Engine Electronics". What could that be? I made sure the gas cap is tightly closed..but don't have a clue...maybe some of you know of this problem before I bring it in? Could it be due to the type of gas I put in the car (always put Premium)...
Thanks!

Don't know if this pertains to your situation exactly, as engine electronics could be anything, but here was my situation. A few months ago I got the "Check Engine - Engine Electronics" light. Brought it into a mechanic, he ran the dianostic test and found nothing wrong. He reset the light, but it kept coming on and off for the next month. Since the mechanic assurred me that there wasn't any problems, I just ignored it. Then one day my battery died. I jumped it and was fine until a week later, when I was driving on the freeway and the light came on (while I was driving) and the car started shaking. I was able to get it home. The next morning the battery was dead again. I got a new battery and the light hasn't gone on again. The funny thing was, the car seem to perform a lot better with the new battery.

based on my experience, it would be one of the 4 oxygen sensors, the Mass Airflow sensor, or the gas cap.
No way to know without bringing it to a mechanic that can run the diagnostic.

Oxygen sensor likely culprit
I had the same like come on with my E320 at about 75,000 miles - oxygen sensor. E classes are notorious for going through oxygen sensors. New sensor cost me $550.00

Yap, I had my E-320 (Y2K model) all O2 sensors replaced at 25000km (15600miles). After replacement, the Check Engine did not come again till now. Service center told me that due to the very bad fuel that caused all my four O2 sensors died!! But I still don't believe that.

More of that naughty fuel going around, eh?
Add Purge Valve to the list of possibilities. Same 400-500 bucks to replace it, so don't worry.
I had a Nissan once that went through set of O2 sensors, but the dealer replaced them for free under one of those 'secret' warranties. MB has the same known problem, but they have no qualms about blaming everything else.

CHECK ENGINE ELECTRONICS
I had the light come on my 97 E420. Dealer wanted $700 to do two sensors. Sensors can be bought online for 90 bucks each--take to an independent and labor is usually 1/2 hour's worth...
Probably $250 total versus $700

i had the check engine light come on in my 99 E320 a few months ago (at around 72k). At first I looked at the gas cap, because the light actually came on right after a visit to the gas station. Turns out that was just a coincidence. I did however notice that the car was not performing up to par-was just acting weaker than usual. I ended up replacing the air flow mass meter ($175-225). I had the light resetted and it never came back. Good luck
