replacing windshield
whats involved. I still have the original MB windshield and have developed a large horizontal crack. It's been this way for a while as I'm afraid to have some dee dee dee start tearing apart all of the trim and hacking things up. I'm sure a SafeLite replacement should be sufficient. Just want to know what I should look out for OR be aware of..... not a big fan of surprises, especially bad ones.

Safelite is fine. Those guys do that all day, so they know how not to screw up the trim. I would miss the signed white sticker for reasons I can't even articulate. I can find an OEM one if you want to compare prices. I was kicking the idea around myself because of all the tiny pitting my glass has.

Watch out on the removal of the old glass..
When they remove the old glass..as the windshield is sealed in with sealer along with the weatherstrip...Most glass shops will use a cable to cut the sealer
and I Have seen a lot of them cut the metal body seam..and NOT touch up the metal...The rust will start and then you will have one big mess

2004 e320 and 99 e320 wagon
i cheaped out on my old e320 sedan....had a new air conditioning system installed with the new windshield. there was a huge gap at the bottom of the windshield and it whistled when i got up to 50 or so and i got some fresh air too. called the guy back, more caulk, bad results. could not speak enough spanish on the phone to convey the problem. i went out and got my own windshield caulk and fixed it myself...also replaced the lower trim with replacements from duval. once again, you get what you pay for. $110 for a windshield...2hours of my time and $7 worth of caulk...good as new. go with autolite or other reputable company, unless you want new vents.

i agree with mark i do glass at a dealer and its horiable what i see glass shops do, most of them just cut out the glass
very roughly and on the jagged old glue they put alittle new glue and then the windsheild. and youll never be the wiser
cause all the trim covers it ...glass guys are paid to be as fast as poss.
