E300 Engine not turning over

Well, the cold weather we just got in Chicago must have done something to my starting system.
Here are the facts/symptoms:
-All electronics turn on, battery is charged
-After turning the key, the Glow plug light comes on for the usual amount of time and then shuts off indicating its o.k. to start
-I can hear the usual solenoid sound coming from the engine after turning key
-Turn the key, and absolutely no noise. No cranking of the starter, no sputtering, nothing at all

I'm thinking its my starter, or some type of a solenoid switch associated with it. My starter wasn't making weird noises before this happened, and typically in my experience a starter will make some grinding noises before it actually goes.
Any thoughts before I take it to the mechanic?

About 95% of the time it's the battery.

Lights turning on is meaningless.

What is age of battery?

Good point Kent, I did forget to mention that I attempted to jump the car with my buddy's SL500. I had the cables on there for quite a while, and still the same symptoms occurred.

I purchased the car 3+ years ago and have never replaced the battery. It might be good measure just to replace it anyway.

Kent was right... it was the battery. I put a new one in and the car started right up. The battery I replaced had to be the original because it was Mercedes Brand. Either that, or the previous owner always took it to the dealer and got hosed for a new battery.
