Help needed with tail lights

Hi. I just recently purchase Oem E55 Face lift tail lights. The outer tails i got them in about 15 minutes real easy. The inner tail lights are killing me. I cant get them in for nothing. I tried shaving here and there but its not working out for me. One side goes in the other side doesn't Cant get it to sit flush. Spent too much time trying to get it in. Can someone help me. Do i have to shave a certain specific area. Pics , tips would any advice be appreciated. THanks

took me about 15 mins of methodical shaving per side. be careful that you're
not too aggressive or you risk sanding right through the reflector. they're
far from paper thin but they're not thick, either. from memory....hmm about
3mm ?!

take your time. sand with light touch (or Dremel with rough wheel) for about
10 secs. try to fit. repeat. etc etc.

i did same as you....using E55 tails in place of my 99 E320 ovals.

if you have the proper tools, you can try shaving metal on the trunk lid
instead. I didn't need to progress to that extreme.

tip: to help camoflage reflector to metal gap, use strip of window insulation
to bridge the gap. they usually come with peel off adhesive strip which
helps you position the stripping. you dont want to set ourself up for water
intrusion as a result of this mod

Hey raymond thanks a lot. I got them in! And wow they do make a huge difference. I have one problem now. The right side. The inner tail light the wire that is supposed to connect to it is too short. What do i do here?

oh...hmm...it's been several years, but when I close my eyes, I see.....

....dead people.

jk jk....i seem to recall reaching in and simply reworking the wiring around
in more direct fashion than it was originally, like I had to snake it around
a fitting or two. You may need to unsnap a couple of more of those
plastic snaps so that you can reach deeper towards the hinged edge of
the lid. no worries, it'll reach.
