All Season Tire Recommendations 2000 E430 4MATIC
Hey guys,
It has become apparent that I am in desperate need of new tires. My car has literally become a hockey puck which is sad considering it's a 4matic. I'm looking to grab some new all season tires for the stock E430 sport 17" wheels. I live in Colorado so I would prefer some that do decently well in the snow as I use this car to go skiing. Also, the stealership quoted me at $1010 for a new set of all seasons. I know I can do better than 4 tires for $1010!
I would have gone with snow tires, but I'll be moving to LA within the year and don't want to be rolling around with snow tires when I don't need them. I feel like all seasons + 4matic should cover me well enough.
Anyway, any suggestions? Have any of you had good experiences with certain all seasons in the snow?
Thanks!

I have been very impressed with my new set of ContiExtreemContacts. I've driven a full summer, fall and 1/2 of a winter on them. Several snow storms and they have performed very well. You should be able to find a set for under $500 + Tax, mounting...etc.
Check out the ratings on the Tire Rack site...very highly rated especially for winter driving.

If you have a Costco membership, you cannot go wrong with the Michelin Primacy MXV4. There is a $70 promotion til the end of Jan, I think.
I, along a few other members, have it on my 4Matic wagon since the summer of 2007 when it first came out. Very quiet, excellent mileage, and no need for snow tires in the Michigan winter. Plus, it has a 60k or 70 k miles warranty. (I cannot remember the exact number but was very high).
If you do a search for it, there are several thread about it with links to test by a Canadian group.

One more thought. Go for a Michelin all season like the MXV4. I had great all round use from them on an older E class. Bridgestone are very noisy on dry summer pavement. Blizzak is great winter performer and touted highly by the Tire Rack folks. I still yield to the Michelin as the best all season performer that I have owned. We have them on our Odyssey Van up in Toronto where there is about two and a half feet still on the ground and most roads are hard packed snow. No loss of bite or traction.

I did not like the wet and snow performance of the Energy MXV4, although I like its smooth rolling on dry pavement.
The newer Primacy MXV4 (replaces the Energy MXV4) is much better in rain and snow. It has a hybrid tread design. The center is the same as on the Energy MXV4 but the edge uses a more aggressive design (from the Pilot Primacy), IIRC.
I still have a set of Energy MXV4 that I use on my 1997 E320 during the non-snow months.

Primacy is what I was referring to. It is the updated version of the MXV series and the tread has much better grip and still runs quiet on dry pavement.
