We were the original owner of ol '97 and had it regularly serviced at the dealer even beyond the warranty. When the trunk rusted out next to the key hole, they worked with Mercedes and replaced the entire lid for free even though the rust warranty had long expired. The second time the trunk lid rusted out, the dealer picked up the cost of a repair/repaint.

However, when all four wheel wells started rusting they drew the line and wouldn't cover anything more. So we traded up to an '02.

Good luck.... but you are in a dealers hands. MB will not step up, at least in the USA.

Stuttgart is paying for these repairs, so I'll guess it's valid in all countries, unless there are exceptions for specific countries.

Warranty is specific to Market and varies country to country. MBUSA Warranty is 48 Months / 50,000miles. There is no special "Rust Coverage". However, in some cases they will extend "good will" coverage beyond the coverage limits.

Ok, but is there ANY specific rust coverage? I heard too many different things before from 8years stated by semi to 10 years and 30 years anti-perforation coverage?

I bought the car about 2 years ago and haven't serviced it at the stealer even once, so would they even consider doing it?

I looked at my owners/warranty manuals and there is not a single word about rust coverage. Also, on the current MBUSA website, no mention of rust warranty is mentioned. Edmunds specifically states that the rust warranty is 4 years / 50,000miles - same as the basic warranty. Again, this is all USA specific.

As far as walking into a dealer looking for some consideration... I doubt you will get much unless Canada has better rust warranty coverage than the US. In any event, asking is free as is the repair quote.

Most, if not all, "goodwill" has dried up pertaining to rust repair on these cars in the USA.

After a while, people come to realize it's a losing battle. It's kind of a shame.

Well, my situation is not that bad yet, so I guess ill give them a ring and see if they can help out, otherwise going to just get it painted myself, only need the body guy to clean up the inside of the fenders really, and maybe paint one fender, the rest is ok for now.

I have to do this on the right rear fender as well. There's a ton of wet sludge behind the wheel arch lips and I'm going to remove the wheel, high pressure clean it, let it dry and then apply something like ML-underbody protection. ONLY when that is done I can start working on the outside paintjob, otherwise it'll just keep coming back...
