Is this the real Trany slip problem

Slipping from 2nd to 3rd or 3rd to 4th , not fluid, not filter, not connector, or TCM, but instead:
Regulating Pressure Control Valve Spring.

In the threads where I found this info, the guy was saying that it affects model: 95-99 with 722.6 only... Is that right? the syptom is exactly like mine.. and I dont get harsh shifting or "weird" shifting it just shifts normally a few times then slips between 3-4 and then goes into safty mode leaving you in 3rd or 4th.. next time you turn on and off its back to normal.. so its not limping

n2-n3 implausible
changed the electrics kit in gearbox but has not made any differance
people are telling me to change the plates but if the plates were gone
surly it would slip between all gears and not just 3 and 4
please let me know tommy.
thanks
I had a '97 722.6 come in with owner complaint of slipping 2 to 3, and 3 to 4. Car stuck in fail-safe. I stripped trans. Needn't have bothered. The K3 clutch plates were VERY slightly discolored. Found the fix another way! There's a spring that breaks in the valve body. It actually collapses in on itself, usually. The spring is available from trans parts shops. Sonnax Part number 68942-01.. Regulating Pressure Control Valve Spring. ***Fits '99 and earlier only****. Just drop the pan, and remove the rear v/body plate on the exhaust pipe side toward the rear. Count 3 valves in, and there the spring is. If it's still all together, but collapsed, just replace it. If parts of it are missing, you'll need to remove v/body to find the missing broken bits of spring. Then reassemble, and have the fault codes cleared. Worked for me.

Yours should not be affected (although it does not mean it is not broken ) because the affected spring is up to transmission end no. 6341191097

You can use your VIN or data card to get the transmission number (if your transmission is original).

Put your VIN here:

http://old.mbclub.ru/mb/vin/?lng=eng

The info should also be in your document package that came with the car.

i have started to suspect that every gasket / o-ring seal has failed and over the years a serious amount of trany fluid has escaped or vapourised and or got contaminated too... also did I mention before that some else must of fooled around with the trany before me and might of filled it with garbage.. as the red tag was missing in action.. my gearbox indy tells me that even mercedes would over look that heh....
food for thought

and btw i found some Shell ATF that stated MB Aproval and had 736.9 stated on it... would that cut the mustard... ?

my tranny # is 722605 00 285208. does that mean that i need to replace the spring? only a few months ago i replaced the conductor plate along with the tranny fluid/filter and i didn't know about the spring being talked about. is it ok if i just change it next time i change the tranny fluid/filter in a couple of years, or should i go ahead and change it now?

tirona: If yours is shifting fine, just check it the next time you do fluids. The spring is actually made of heavy gauge steel (for its size) so I am surprised some got broken.

I just replaced the conductor plate today and all is well. I used MaxLife. I also posted a DIY writeup in benzworld.

thanx loubapache. i hope you don't get the p0715 code anymore. so far i haven't, so the conductor plate must have been the answer.

Yes. I can see why they fail. I detailed it in the DIY on benzworld.
