Engine stops while sitting at stoplight

Hello,
I have a 2000 E430 with 105000 miles on it. A month or so ago I noticed that the engine stopped while sitting at a stoplight, now it is getting to be a weekly thing. It would start right away at first but now it want to wait a few seconds before it restarts. What would cause this to happen?
Also the fuel pump is getting rather noisy, is this something to worry about?

Thanks,
Ed

Also posted in the Tech section, hope that's OK, I just wanted more saturation

Fuel filter?? I don't think it has ever been changed. Where is it and what do they run?
