break pads UK users aviod quickfit

Recently I took my car to two seperate quickfit outfits in london,

first place, first time I asked them to do a check on my engine and tranny mounts they said they could do this and did so at no charge very nice of them, so any way I know full well baised on there age and a few other factors must surely be shot or very border line ... any way they stuck her on the ramp and fiddled around with a prybar and then claimed they cant see any problems with them and sent me on the way.

Second place, Second time, I asked if they still performed the free break check, they did, but the person said they couldnt get it done till the next day..fair enough, he had a little look and agreed they probably did need changing, but then before we got any further some other scenior mech screams MAIN DEALER ONLY .. at his colegue that is talking to me, what the ****£$!"4311"^$% i thought to myself NUTTER!!! .. but there image of motorist friendly place is a cr0ck of sh*T espesicially if you drive a merc.

my friend changed my pads on the side of the road over a year ago last time and have had no problems till now... no squeeling or squeeking, unlike my pervious C-class merc that I did let quick fit do and as I drove off there drive It did squeek and squeel and was like that on and off till i sold it...

Anyway all I wanted to know from them was if the pads were past due realy and hope that they might check on the Fluid and stuff you know official like, though it counts for **** it seems ..

any event as i did have little bit of fun in my car recently on top of how long ago i did the pads last ... and I have a little grinding noise occuring now like the pads are adjusting to hard after pressing the breaks..

the person decided to test drive my car to clarify if the grinding was the pads.. off he went.. he comes back saying he couldnt hear the grinding the whole time... but when he did briefly hear it, he said it was not the pads! ????

what do you think..

I do not understand WHY you take a car like that to kwikfit for anything more than tyres!? Their 'mechanics' are actually just 'replacers' handling all car brands so they never get any real specialization. Try to find a good independent shop specialized in Mercedes...

Ive yet to see an independent mb garage that would coperate in my local area honestly m8 they really are that bad.. they want to charge to even put the car on a ramp etc .. presumably that is cause you wont sds it for £40 first you know the sort of thing i mean ... you make a sugestion they just smile like as if to say you mug when you turn out to be exactly right.... ffs most of them dont even drive a mb .. i would take my car to familiy run bussiness before i took my car to a specialised mb indy in my local vasinity

Sorry to hear of your troubles. Good DIY section on this forum for brakes. Replace with EBC ceramic Red Stuff and no sqeaks. They are also made on your side of the pond I believe. I like them alot. Job is straight forward. Why pay someone for something you can do yourself and fairly quickly too?

cheers ejsheltra, I am not looking for sympathy... but that is exactly what will be happening now and in the future ... I cant wait to do the pads my self maybe I'll go spin some donoughts in Quickfit car park
EBC Red stuff sounds highly good, i think I will look at the USR discs too

Quite frankly I am sick and tierd of the greed and green eye envy in the motor trade in and arround south london.

heh heres an example:

Cheap Suspension link from ECP: 8.20
Expensive Link from ECP 8.40
OEM link from MB: 7.20
argh i know its just pennys really ... its like they dont even bother to check at the maindealer

same way the garage would rely 1000% on the gospel of a computer screen to replace parts untill it works @ very profitable rates
