2002 E320 - sometimes no start and sometimes tranny doesn't shift out of first
Help!
I have a 2002 E320 Sport w/ 120k miles. I have two problems:
1.) Occasionally the car won't start and just "clicks" when the key is turned. If I take key out and re-insert and turn, it starts.
2.) When #1 happens, many times the transmission "bangs" and jumps harsly into gear. If driven it won't move out of 1st gear. Again, I have to stop, take key out, re-insert and start the car. Typically that solves the problem.
Any advice?

had this issue with my 00 - experienced almost the same issues with clicking and not starting, to dying and trans going to limp mode until it just stuck in 1st. I didn't have the abrupt or harsh shifts, but it would die and would need to reinsert key...until that stopped working too. Is your CEL on?
All in all I ended up needing a new speed sensor; seemed to be in line with a lot of the other threads I found when searching that described a similar problem. Hopefully someone else will chime in on this for you, too. Best of luck -
