I think you're referring to the anti-noise panels under the car. Most W210's have two. One wide one from under the front bumper to the front engine cross member and a much smaller one which covers the oil pan. If it was broken off and pulled back it might seem like it was covering the transmission.

See the current thread 'question about under engine cover' over on benzworld.org/w210 for more info. Hope this helps.

What year car do you have? The front ones are 110.00 new from the dealer and the smaller rear is about 35.00 I have a spare front one in excellent condition and very clean for $80.00 if you want it. PM me or email at ejsheltra@yahoo.com

All W210s have two under shields from the factory. Most quick lube places take off the smaller one and toss it. They keep road crap out of your engine bay and help with the aerodynamics underneath the car. Big help in keeping under hood electronics dry. The larger one attaches to your front plastic wheel well liners and to the frame. It is very sturdy when properly secured and has a front edge rubber gasket that fits into the bumper when in place. Some versions have two drain holes in the large one and two trap doors for access to the fog lights. It is an easy DIY to install these.

I believe slightly more arc or curve at the front edge in the post 6/99 front undershield but they all fit the same way and bolt up in the same places. The aerodynamics of the newer version is improved and actually has channels for air flow to your brakes. you would not see any difference once mounted.

will not fit your 99. Whole front end including fenders is different.

Cheers
