Brake Work
I know it is not covered under warranty anyway and 50,000 miles is pretty good mileage before needing brake work.
My question is when you all had initial work done was it just the front pads or were rotors or rear brake work required as well.
Also what did the dealerships nick you for just for front pad replacement?
You also need to check the rear. If they are in good shape, then there is no need to change them.
I am not close to NYC so I will be going to my local dealership. I think they'll be looking for $150 or more just for front brake pads.
I know I could do it for cheaper elsewhere but I don't know if they'd use OEM parts, so I'll probably pay a little extra for peace of mind.

Of course the dealer told me that the front rotors needed to be replaced as well as the pads. Total cost - $450. Seems like a substantial amount of money for brake work - the dealer's labor rate is $77/hr. Too much of an inconvenience to find another mechanic to do the work and save $100 or so. A friend had pads and rotors put on his Ford Explorer recently and it was $300 -$350.
Rear brakes were all right - a slight "pulse" - he thinks they'll last until the fronts need to be replaced again. I won't have the car at that point anyway.
