That's what happens after they have been abused by tire shops/ dealers with their impact wrenches.

not sure of the affected years - but

I did have a problem with the lug nuts on my 2000 model year. There was a new set available and when I pointed the problem out to the dealer they knew about the issue and put on the new set. They are a different sytle than the originals.

Also, the 'old' style was prone to fusing with the hub with the natural heating and cooling of driving. That plus the abuse by the air wrench monkeys.
The torque on the nuts is supposed to be 80lbs, but some of the impact wrenches can punish the lugs with up to 180lbs.

yes, me too!! i just ran search to find other cases, and you are confirming this for me as a problem..
i noticed the rusting a few weeks ago as this tough winter weather eased up. i bought the car used with real low mileage last summer, so i dont know if car was exposed last year (it has a 12/01 build date). i am 99% certain that it wasnt caused by airwrench as tires looked original and no service record of wheel changes or rotations.
i will go to dealer to change them too.
thanks!
