Code Reader...where to get & how much?
was wondering if ne1 know where i can get a code read for my e320? ne1 know if any of the auto parts stores will read/get the code for free? thanks.
Many people out here get/recommend the Harbor Freight Model 94169 OBDII Scanner. Normally they are $59 at store but often on sale for $39 on HF website. Most store managers will give you the online price if you print out the online ad and take it to the store.
Assuming this is related to your other 'smog' post, the scanner will clear the pending codes but they will come back almost immediately because the underlying problem has not been fixed. It could be plugs, coils, MAF, O2 sensors or catalytic convertors gone bad. Most of which are fairly expensive repairs. The seller is responsible for providing a valid smog certificate less than 90 days old at time of sale which will allow you to register the car.
Autozone and Kragen used to do it for free but I heard they stopped so you might call them.
