Door Jamb Switch Replacement

Car is 1997 E320. The pluinger button on the jamb switch for the driver's door is missing. I don't know where it went. I assume I will have to replace the switch. Can switch be replaced from outside or must B pillar interior trim be removed? If this is the case it looks like I have to remove the plastic piece at the bottom of the pillar and then remove the fabric covered trim piece that runs up to the seat belt opening. How does one remove these trim pieces without damaging them? TIA

on my 99 E320, i can simply pull the weather stripping firmly and it will
separate w/o damage from the metal framework....thereby revealing
the recess area in which the door switch can be accessed. but yes,
you can also begin at the bottom end and remove plasticware and
trim panels. I didn't need to go this route

Raymond, I would imagine that my car is put together like yours but can you clarify your information? Once the weather stripping is removed, doesn't the trim panel have to pulled to the interior of the car or is there access from the side of the B pillar? Once the old switch is freed, is there enough slack in the wiring to unkook it and replace it from the outside of the car? Thanks.

hmm, good question but I admit that i've not had to R&R this switch. all
my earlier repairs have been to fix while it's in place. so i really shouldn't
have worded my post as if it were so cut and dried.

several months ago, I had to tweak the one in an 00 E320 and I only had
to perform shimming. removal was not required so I am unable to advise
with more precision. the picture in my mind has a visual on the switch
within the opening, but I have no gauge of how to remove and replace.

sorry if my post was misleadingly simplistic.
