Question W211 Rims on a 1999 E300

I wanted to get some feedback on installing the five spoke w211 stock 17" rim on my 1999 e class.

I've changed my rims to the 16" double spoke w211. Thinking I didn't want to change the ride or gas mileage. However, I'm not 100% pleased with the look.

I've already crossed the lug bolt hurdle using a set of bolts off a C280. I guess the same bolts will work for the 17" W211.

What would the difference in the offset be from the w211 16" stock vs the w211 17" stock. Will it have any impact?

Any advise?

Where did you get 16" AMG Double Spokes? Never heard or seen those?

All wheels for the W211 chassis have 14mm lugbolt and the W210, W203, W208 and W209 have 12mm lugbolts. In short - they will not fit.

The 16" rims where off a stock 2003 E320. I call them the double spoke, some call it a ten spoke.

I've already had these mounted using, according to my MB dealer, some bolts off a C280? After 10,000 miles they seem to be doing fine. I could check my service bill for part numbers on the lug bolts.

Sounds like you are using W211 wheels which 'require' 14mm lugbolts and bolting them on with 12mm lugbolts. Since the ball seat of the 12mm lugbolt does not fit 'properly' in the 14mm ball seat on the wheel they will not seat properly and can come lose.

Recommend you re-torque your wheels more often.

The MB Service Advisor did mention that I should check the bolts every so often but did not explain to me about the 2MM difference. I've checked them about every couple of weeks and have been fine for about 3 months. I does give me some concern though.

So if I avoid the w211 rims, what would 17" or 18" rims do to my ride and gas mileage?

I don't think the gas mileage would be noticeable nor a concern. The biggest trade off is riding comfort an quicker tire wear.

Can you please post some pictures of these wheels on your E. I really liek those wheels and was curious to how they look on a W210. Aren't they 17's though?
