insurance claim

i have a question about insurance claim i had a car accident last week and it wasnt my fault so other driver's insurance is going to pay for the damages. they came and made estimate it was $2700.00 but i took it to different body shop and they gave me $4300.00 estimate. my question is can i take the money and fix it myself or do i have to take it to body shop to fix it. thanks guys.

Shouldn't your insurance co. be handling this on your behalf? Given the way MB's are made I would want a dealer to at least look at the car from a mechanical point of view. There's stuff packed all over inside covered areas. Also, the difference you've been quoted could be from one shop quoting for used parts vs. another quoting for new.

Good luck.

The other party (insurance company) will try to convince you to go to the shops they have contracts with...to save them money and time.
Since the other party is paying for it... I would take it to the most reputable shop or the dealership like the other member mentioned.
