rear tailight problem

my rear brakelights constantly go out (especially on bumps and when shifting to reverse), which is due to the bulb holders loosening , so i have to adjust the bulb holders all the time. i know this is a problem on the earlier w210s. anyone solved this problem ?

Had somewhat of a similar problem, the rear driver side tailight kept on going of, especially on breaking. Everytime I got into the car and started it, as soon as I pressed the breaks to shift into drive, "lamp defective" came up on the LCD. Tried changing the bulb, which helped for couple of days and then the problem returned, turns out it was the bulb housing defect which kept on burning the bulbs. Took it to the dealer couple of weeks ago, who fixed it under warranty by replacing the whole break tailight housing, seems to be fine now (knock on wood ). From what I understood it was a common problem on the W210.

I am not sure if this is what's causing your light to go out, but hope this helps, and good luck fixing the problem.

Since I am out of warranty and not interested in spending $ to fix MB's inferior engineering, I found my own fix. I wound fishing line ( monofilament) behind all the metal tabs that make contact with bulb assembly, making circumferential rings around the hole. The effect was to push the tabs back out and made available some added support to the tabs to allow them to make and hold sufficient contact with the bulb assembly. Incredibly the heat does not melt the monofilament. The plastic MB used in its final design solution was way off the mark. This may seem a hill billy solution, but it overcomes MB's poor design. Take your choice.
