Transmission leak
96 E300D I was hooking the block heater up and took the covers off the bottom of the engine and noticed transmission fluid in the cover. I looked around and it seems to be coming more from the rear of the tranny as the front seems quite dry. I was advised this is a 722.4xx transmission. I have had to add some fluid to bring it up to full. The dealership mechanic advised me to use any DEX 3 fluid. Any Ideas out there where to look for this leak? Shifts fine for 208K.

Leaks can be hard to track down especially if they start higher up and drip over lines and nooks and crannies.
As I'm sure you know the movement of air will tend to push fluids towards the rear.
The only thing that has worked for me is to get under the car and do a thorough cleaning job. Then inspect regularly to see where the leak shows up first.
