Cold Starting Problems
My 97 E-420 has begun having problems starting in very cold weather (below 15 deg F). First sign of problems was hard starting in very cold weather about two weeks ago. It started but was very rough running until engine warmed up. Started fine in subsequent starts in warmer weather. Monday, it did not start at all when parked outside in <15F temp. Engine turned over strongly and repetitively, but, would not start. As soon as it warmed up a bit, the engine started fine and has started fine since. I want to take it in to have it checked out by mechanic, but they may not be able to repeat the problem now that the weather is warming. I don't want to waste time and money on exploratory repairs that I may not be able to verify till next winter without some good information. Any advice as to what the likely problem is would be appreciated.
