Strange E-Class Problem... New Development...

Last year I bought a used 2001 E320 4Matic that only had 21k miles. When I bought it the clock on the dash was somewhat mixed up just as it still is as shown in the picture below. Does anyone know what it would take to make it work? One of my friends disconnected the battery to reboot the car and that did not help. Also after the battery was disconnected, the ABS and Brake Assist warning lights came on. The lights remained on for the next five minutes but the codes cleared when I shut the car off. Immediately upon shutting the car off it said 'No malfunctions.' Does that seem unusual to anyone?

Car free at the moment
The messed up pixels in the clock and outside temperature display are common problems on the 210 chassis. It is caused by a poor connection between the ribbon cable which connects the display to the circuit board which controls the display.

Here is a step-by-step DIY: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w208...pixel-fix.html

It's rather involved, as you can see.

Alternatively, there are specialists that will repair the display. You pull it and ship it, they fix it and return it. I'm not turning up any names with a quick google, however.

In addition to the link Shadow5501 posted, there is a PDF here of a simpler way:

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w208...splay-fix.html

I am going to have to do this myself soon.

Shadow's right with the common prob - I had it on my 00 E320 and it's starting on my 01 E430, so I've learned to live with it.

Regarding the BAS lights, etc. - that happens when you do a battery disconnect, it resets. So when you reconnect battery, (key out of ignition first) and then put the key in after the reconnect and turn the car on, the BAS lights will appear...turn the wheel all the way to the left, hold for a few seconds, then repeat all the way to the right - the lights should reset and go away. If it's persistent every time you turn it on, I'd check the battery and/or poke around the forum.

Happy benzing.

New problem, I put the two front windows down and they won't go back up. I wonder if this had anything to do with disconnecting the battery? I'm taking it to a mechanic but wanted to see if anyone had any idea what caused this....

Whenever you disconnect the battery some things need to be re-synchronized (windows, seats, sunroof, steering angle sensor, radio code). Try holding the window down button (both front windows, one at a time) for a few seconds then try to raise them.

Hopefully the re-synch was the problem, but if not, the switch problem happened to me too on my 00 E320 after I did a reset - but all 4 interior switches would not work. Sad panda.
You may want to check the fuses under the rear seat to see if they're in tact, if you haven't already. I've seen some with this issue resolve it that way, but I wasn't one of the lucky ones. Double sad panda.

If your key fob is able to roll them up, it could be a sign of a faulty window switch panel - but do post your results if you end up taking it to your mechanic, as this seems to be happening more often and I'm sure a direct troubleshoot would be welcomed.

Try the smart key

Great idea alpinestar_k I hadn't thought of that. OP might not even know about that feature. I didn't know where the fuses for the windows are so that's certainly worth a try too.

Fisman, is case you were unaware, holding the lock button for a few seconds closes all the windows and the sunroof in addition to locking everything. Conversely, holding the unlock button opens the windows and the sunroof.

Thank you guys. I was unaware of using the key fob to open and close the windows.

When I got to the mechanic, the windows started working again so that he was able to resynch them.

They have been working properly since then but I am still a little concerned because they windows didn't work at all for me for that brief period of time. It seems like from what I've read that even un-synched windows should at least inch up so they can be synched and I didn't even have that for a while there...

Hey Bobi B. You might want to start a new thread. I dont think the issue that this poster had 7 years ago is relevant to your particular issue. Thanks and welcome to the forums.
