Rear door lock not unlocking

Hello all,

I have a 2002 E320 sedan. The remote unlocks all the doors except the rear drivers side. It will lock it fine, but it does not unlock it. Is there just a child proof setting somewhere I am missing or is it just broken?

It's not a childproof setting, that affects both rear doors and it's a switch on the panel containing the master window switches. When activated you'll see a child icon. Does the button raise when you unlock it but you can't open the door? Can you unlock it manually by raising the button?

The button does not raise. If I manually pull it up the door opens just fine. I would have just assumed it is broken but then the button goes down and the door locks just fine when I use the remote to lock it.

It's not completely broken then. You can rule out the PSE (vacuum and pressure) pump and line to it since it works to lock it. There is a unit inside the door (which I think is called an attenuator) which might be going bad.

Do you hear a hissing sound coming from the door? I had a similar problem with my driver rear door and it turned out there was a tear in the lock actuator boot which was causing a vacuum leak (hence the hissing noise).

I Have done several line repairs on the l/r doors on 210s ...remove the door panel and check the line going to the lock assy...Most leak inside the boot between the door and the body....B Pillar...

My bad. I called the unit an attenuator and that was incorrect. Thanks to Red66GT for the correction of actuator.

Is there a vacuum "Tee" located somewhere to split vacuum for both rear doors? My 02 E320 fronts lock/unlock fine but both rear door locks are inop. I'm wondering where to start before digging into the doors.

I completely forgot to post what the problem was. There is a plastic part that physically pushes/pulls the lock up and down. Part of it was broken so when you tried to unlock, there was no plastic there to push it up. The part that pulls it down was still in place. Had the part replaced and it has worked perfect since.

Yes---it is at the point where the vacuum is produced-----the PSE which is located under foam under the rear seat(typically passangers side)
