'97 e320 (m104) oil filter wrench/socket?
Later did a search online and they appear to be available for $15-30 from various sources. However, I would really like to change the oil tomorrow if at all possible, or Sunday at the latest.
Other than online, is there any other place what I can purchase one of these things?
BTW, the correct filter socket is 74mm 14pt, right?
Thx all...
I started on Sunday the adventure of changing the oil in my 1997 E 320 gasoline sedan W210 engine m104.
Tonight is Monday and I just replaced the oil filter.
The biggest problem I had was with finding a way to unscrew the hard tighten cap on the filter oil.
Now, unless your cap was not closed right in the first place, I don't think there is anyway you can unscrew it by hand unless you have a metal hand with 14 flutes.
After long research and multiple visits to stores (with returns included), I will finally reveal to the public what works on this engine:
76 mm 14 flutes in metal.
Nothing else works thatI tried.
The good news is that you can EASILY find it at Advanced Auto Parts for around 5-6 dollars.
You then need a 3/8 wrench but that you might already have or you can buy at the store once you find the cap.
No need to spend 19 or 36 dollars for the oil filter wrench.
The brand of the oil filter wrench (the 76 mm) is Performance Parts.
The M104 is 76 mm not 74, or 74.5. Don't get the 74/76 one, it also does not work.
Good luck, the store might not have it in stock but just go to the nearest other one and likely they have it.

My 2006 MB's don't really need it as the oil filter cap is not recessed at all so I usually use the plier-type universal wrench that I have (Fram branded, bought from Walmart)
