Shift knob
You know the only thing that I don't like about my car? That blasted shift knob! What is that black stuff on it. On pictures, it kinda looks like wood, but it is really plastic. What was Mercedes-Benz thinking. I think that a wood and leather combo would look nice. Even an all leather one would look better than what I have. The shift knob does look better on the interiors with black wood, but still not good.
Any opinions?

Yup, wasn't too crazy about the original one either. Replace mine with black birdseye maple. The colour is slightly off from the factory interior, but still looks and feels much better.

The original shift knob that came on my 2001 desert silver/java E430 was ugly. The dealer then installed a leather/wood shift knob that came with the S class. MB doesn't make a leather/wood shift knob for the E-class.
Unfortunately, the leather on top was sort of "olive" rather than brown. Although it looked elegant, there was a mismatch in the colors. As a result, I ended up putting in an all-burlwood that I got from gapa. The wood is a perfect match with the console.

Hi JamE55,
Bought it from Oberklasse, I think I paid $99 plus s/h. They are very friendlly to deal with. You can get the link from https://mbworld.org/links/parts.shtml
Does the black shift knob come with your '02 E55 stock?

E 4.3, are you referring to the wood/leather S-class shift knob or the original that came with the car? I don't have a picture, but it looks the same as the ones in the S/CL 500. The only problem is that the leather is more of a grayish olive color and doesn't match the brown steering wheel and the top of the dash. Otherwise, it's quite elegant.
