Strip on top of my 2000 E320

Strip on top of my 2000 E320
Ok, I am a little crazy about my 2000 E320, but I noticed yesterday the little strip that runs on either side on the top of the car is very loose. What can I use to tighten this back down? Will I need to buy another piece and have a professional attach it? My concern is that water may be getting under it.
Oh, and did I mention I'm a little thrifty, too?

Nothing wrong with being thrifty. Crazy, maybe, but not thrifty.
Those strips are attached from the underside of the roof. You'll have to remove the pillar coverings and then the headliner to access the fasteners. At that point you can inspect to see if any corrosion has occurred or if you just need to tighten the fasteners.
There was a DIY awhile back by someone who removed their headliner to recover it. Very detailed with lots of pictures. Sorry I can't recall the poster but someone else might. Or you might search on 'headliner'.

I went and saw my mechanic yesterday and he explained the little part that fits inside the groove would have to be replaced - it is actually stuck in the strip itself. He said it would not be that costly to do it, but I wanted something done because my concern was water leaking through the roof. He told me that would not happen - so - I decided to epoxy it and voila' the strip is now stuck to the top of the car. If it comes loose, then I'll do the right thing and have it professionally fixed.
