Radar Detector

I have a "98" E430 and just purchased the Valentine One detector with the extra display unit. Any recomendations as to the best mounting location? I saw a post that a user had mounted the xtra display in front of the instrument cluster since the main unit was behind the mirror and not readily visible.

I have a Valentine One hard wired into my 2000 E430. I had the dealer wire it into the system in the cluster at the front of the roof just behind the rear view mirror. I mount the unit high on the windshield with the supplied suction cups. Very hard to see from outside, especially with my tinted glass.

I have seen several E's after a high speed crash - Trust me, it's probably better to just slow down. I pay a higher insurance rate to drive a E, more than when I drove the M class. Geico says it's because of the damage sustained to a E when involved in a wreck, and they aren't just whistling dixie.

Dude: If you can't answer the question, just keep it to yourself. If you are going to tell me that you go 55MPH when the flow is going 70+ then you are either an idiot or a much better man than us mere mortals. However, most of us just don't want to be the one picked out of the crowd of cars that are ALL speeding, so we use a radar detector.

I also have my V1 hardwired into the overhead console area, and the unit high up on the windshield to the left of the mirror, and it works and looks great.

To Neicey

Well, for one I believe Neicey is a female.

That said, crashworthiness is one reason I drive an E-class. I have seen several at the local dealer body shop where the front end was completely wiped out, yet you could still open both front doors and the airbag didn't deploy.

The idiot that bought my '95 E420 lost control, snagged guard rail, and turned the car up on its driver side. Just about totaled it. He and his girlfriend crawled out of the sunroof with the stereo still playing. Police said if it had not been a Benz, they would have both been killed. He got it fixed and is still driving it.

Don't kid yourself, E-class Mercedes-Benz cars are designed and built to withstand a hell of a crash.

Post Re: Radar Detector

I just purchased the Escort 8500 based upon all the reviews I read. It plugs into the lighter. I only received it this week, so I am not really in a position to comment upon its effectiveness yet. Of course, I did open her up a bit last night on an open highway w/o much fear of being stopped.

I am curious how others feel about the Escort 8500.
