Gages don't always work in Dash

Sometimes when I start my E420, the gages (GAS, TACH, Speed, temp) don't work..they never budge...sometimes they do..this just started happening. Anyone have any ideas? I need to get this fixed pretty quick as its hard to drive not knowing speed, gas, etc.

I would like to make the repair before I bring to MB.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum -

Have you made any mods involving electrical items such as radio, interior lights, etc. If not, it's pretty hard to tell. Usually when a cluster fails it starts with one or two signals not the whole thing. It could be the ECU is not recognizing the cluster and not sending the values. It could be a short to ground somewhere in the cabling. Or it could be the cluster itself.

You may have to go to a dealer or well heeled independent MB mechanic as the codes for such things are MB proprietary. If it is the cluster there are 3rd party repair houses that can fix your cluster. Much cheaper than the dealer.
