Shifting gears
My 2001 E 320 has a problem. It has difficulty shifting up. It will jump when shifting gears. Sometimes the car will even go into neutral where i will have to restart it. What is the problem?

The dashboard does not show the mileage. Could i buy transmission fluid and fill it myself? Where would the transmission fluid go?

When you turn the car off, it should show the mileage on the dash. Or you can scroll through using the steering wheel buttons.
You can find the trans fluid fill tube near the firewall, slightly towards the passenger side of the car. It will have a black cap with either a red or black square plug in it. If the plug is black, the fluid is original. If the plug is red, it's been replaced.

If you do change it, you'll want to drain it, change the filter, and refill with new fluid. I'm also not sure this will fix all your problems, but it should help with the rough shift (not sure about the going into neutral).

The car has 165,000 miles. Is this the cap that reads MB workshop only? If it is then i found the cap but the red or black plug seems to be missing.

That's the transmission filler cap. If you don't see a red locking pin on top of that thing, your oil is most likely original. Meaning it's really, really old.
I would start with changing the fluid and filter, and see if that solves your problems, but with that type of mileage on original oil (or just that type of mileage period) you may have other problems.
