Wash under the hood of W210

Hi everybody,

Has anybody here ever washed under the hood of his/her car (the engine block)?

I was considering one at a self-service Hoffman car wash, but also wondering about the eletrical components. Would it cause damages or result in malfunctioning? Because as far as I noticed they all work with water and soap.

I read somewhere in the internet, that there are some special equipments to clean under the hood which work with dry ice. It is the safest and cleanset mean to clean grease and dirts; but they are not available in all places and are also expensive.

Generally, most sensitive parts are somewhat protected from water. The underhood area gets wet anytime it rains, so water isn't really that abnormal in the engine bay. The key is to avoid too much pressure (stand back) and also to avoid the electrical boxes and sensitive components (including the radiator fins). If you stand a bit back and concentrate on just the engine, you're generally fine.
