E320 different gears
well it's an automatic car so usually you don't need to change gears yourself.
however if you're going up a hill, and the transmission is 'hunting' between 3rd and 4th, then perhaps flicking the lever to '3' will give you a smoother ride as the car sticks in 3rd gear.
you can also manually select gears to help with engine braking - example you're going to be coming to a stop 100m ahead, let the car roll and change down a gear, giving it a few seconds for the revs to adjust and you'll experience engine braking.
