Sunroof Problem

I'm having trouble with the switch for the sunroof onmy 99 E300 Turbodiesel. I can open (retract) it by pulling the switch to the rear but it stops every few inches. But pushing the switch toward the front will not close the roof--it will not budge. The only way to try to close it is to push up on the switch as if to pop the roof up. I have to try to stop the roof at the precise point where it has closed and before it starts to pop up. Takes a few tries but I'm afraid to take it out of the garage in rainy weather. My local dealer worked on it and said they "reset" it but the fix lasted only afew days. Does anybody know what this "reset" is all about? Can I do a reset? Thanks!

Sounds like you have a bad battery. Any other symptoms with windows not working right, radio, etc.?

To sync the sunroof, you should push it up (vent) and hold for a 5 seconds, if I recall.

Thanks!

That certainly could be the problem. I think I am overdue for a new battery. Wierd, though. Everything else seems to work fine, including starting, glow plugs, etc. I will see what difference a battery makes.

I had the same problem - but it disappeared after a while then my sunroof wouldn't budge after that. Haven't been bothered to fix it yet, but my battery is fine.

My MB dealer said the battery was the problem. Got a new battery from another source, installed it and found that it made no difference. Had the old battery checked and it seems quite fine--650 CCA and 95% charge. Not sure I have much confidence in these guys who are also telling me I need to give them something on the order of $1200 to fix a small oil leak, apparently with a new oil cooler and the line that goes to/from it. Getting a second opinion next week. Meanwhile, does anybody know how to replace sunroof switch?
