2000 e320 4m wag drivers side mirror repair

Apparently some person liked my car so much that they punched my drivers side mirror off. I found it dangling from the car, glass hanging by a wire and the shell popped out of the rubber housing. Currently just duct taped it up since i was driving trans-con but now I need to go and investigate. At first glance there was no broken glass, plastic, pins or springs. Did I get lucky or am I F'd. Anyone have a schematic for a w210 2000 e320 4matic wagon? wish me luck...

you're going to have to patch something. the way it's mounted, i dont think
it's possible for you to simply take a dangling mirror and just have things snap
back into place. something is fractured.

----------------------

I take that back. It was over 95º here and i'm a lightweight. the glass is secured
to the motor back plate by dbl stick tape, plastic snaps, and wire latch. that may
be all that is needed to secure the mirror back on. the plastic mirror housing needs
to be off to perform this fastening.

insofar as the plastic mirror shell (your model should have blinker LED array) should
snap back around the mirror's metal framework.

i'm wondering why duct tape was needed at all....so if that is what you had to do
to get things back on, perhaps something, indeed, has failed.

the duct tape was simply insurance...at the time i was so mfffd i didn't want to force anything. it fit snug back into the rubber housing but the last thing i wanted was it to release during cruise. i had heard previously the glass replacements were very expensive so i wanted to take extra precautions to prevent losing the glass. i have returned from the trip and am ready to reveal the wound,,,hence looking for some guidance so i have better understanding of the unit. thanks so far.

the mirror gods were on my side. after removing the duct tape bandage i found everything intact, even the safety wire. just had to clean off the tape residue with wd40, put new dbl sided tape and reattach.

One note: when removing the Plastic shroud you have to position the mirror full inboard to prevent catching the back side of the mirror. And also, before attaching the mirror w/ the new tape, dry fit, dry fit, dry fit...first. Otherwise a panic attack ensues after any hang-ups.

thanks again for the help.
