2000 e320 wagon

I was wondering if anybody may be of some assistance please or give me a diagnosis or clue/insight into my issue......
I have a 2000 e320 station wagon with 167 k...... I am experiencing problems with starting hesitation after i drive for about fifteen minutes to somewhere like the a store for a beer or something, it cranks but fails to fire up, i try and turn it over 4 times or so and nothing.......its almost like the engine flooded, I then leave it for about ten minutes and it will start once again and run fine......Twice now my car has also stalled in traffic. Aaarrrggghhhhhhhhhhh!!! If I leave it parked up and running on idle after about 10 or 15 minutes it will also die.
I used the process of elimination and my limited mind to try and resolve the issue myself. (Failed)
I installed a new fuel filter a few days ago........problem still persists.
I installed a new fuel pump today and the same issue WTF! Pissed.
After researching on here and on google I am forced into my next step which is going to be a little bit of this n that......
Mass air flow sensor? crank position sensor? new plugs and checking vacuum lines.......
Am I a going in the right direction? can anybody help? Thanks!
