E320 tight steering and squeeks

Hi all,
Today I drove my friend's 150k mi E320 Wagon(that I sold him at 112k mi)...it was fun being in it again.
However, I noticed that the power steering seemed very tight, especially at low speeds(fine once starts going). This feels very different than what I recalled, and I wonder if the symptom is due from power steering(one or more component) that needs repairs - any help?
Secondly, I noticed that the car squeeks - sounds like from the shock area. The suspension appears to drive okay, but the noise is very noticeable, especially if the radio is off. I had a louder sound than that w/ my prior S55 and it turned out to be front lower control arm. This one's not as noisy, and it sounds like it's more from rear - though it could just as easily be all four shocks. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thx.
Patrick

Sorry to bump, but I'm seeing my friend shortly and hoping some of you could provide some input on this. 88 viewers...I'm thinking you guys must know something, or at least more than me. Thx.

Is it a "normal" or a "parameter" steering?

Not sure I understand your question, but normally the steering is light when the car is slow and/or stopped...then gradually tighten as the car gains speed toward highway speed. In this case, the higher speed is fine...but when the car is slow, it always feels like there's no power steering. Could this be either power steering pump or fluid?
