MUFFLER FOR 99 E 430

I decided that I want to change my rear muffler after I remove the resonator. I just want to have that V8 rumble kind of AMG cars sound. Which muffler should I choose to get this sound? Thinking between magnaflow or flowmaster.

A lot of people use Magnaflow. I have the full AMG exhaust package including cats. I removed my resonator and added a straight pipe. It didn't make a big difference. Maybe I need to change the AMG muffler also to get the rumble or cut off my primary cats.

did a search and dont feel confident..... on a V8, the resonator, is that located right before the muffler? Looking underneath my e430, towards the front, I can see what prob is the cat (theres 2, side by side, one on each pipe), then after that, I see what looks like a size of the muffler, could this be the resonator ? then the muffler by the bumper.

Can someone confirm, I plan on deleting the resonator first before messing around with the muffler. Thanks.

You are correct in what you have described. That is the resonator mid body and the muffler to the rear of the axle and to the left (driver's) side. Be aware that when replacing a resonator there is no power gain and make sure the shop doing the work uses the same diameter pipe as OEM or you will be creating more restiction not less. Most shops do not carry the correct ID (inside diameter) sized pipe. Find out before they cut your exhaust and you get stuck settling. Just an fyi.

Thanks ejsheltra. I think our diameter is 2.25, right?

for all you guys looking to do any sort of muffler work i have tried magnaflows and flowmasters and both of them didn't fit my liking. the magnaflows had quite a bit of droning so if you are okay with that then they sound great, as for the flowmasters i just didn't like the sound it gave, sounded really cheap and was pretty loud! but i would defiantly recommend cutting out the resonator and putting in an x pipe like i did or straight pipes it defiantly makes it sound a lot better, gives a nice little rumble to it under heavier throttle. i personally am trying to save up for a Remus or just try looking for an AMG muffler.

Blacked210, thanks for the advice. Now are you just running a stock muffler with resonator deleted? And there's a noticable change in the sound? I'm just looking for an enhanced deeper sound, thanks

Defiantly deeper, not to a point where its like a custom muffler but you will hear the difference anywhere above the 2k range and starting the car up. and is very much bearable if you hate droning.

check this video out, pretty good job comparing with and without

Wow! Big difference! You mean to tell me, the only difference between the two is one has the x-pipe and resonator deleted and thats
it?!? With a stock muffler... Time to shop around..... Lol

Just from that clip, the one with the x-pipe sounds like it has a muffler or different exhaust, right? Or am I just hearing things, lol
