KEY- EIS
I have 01 E320. This past summer my key would not turn the ignition switch. I checked the fuse and battery and all are okay. I tried with my other spare key and it worked. Three weeks ago, my son drove the car and parked in front of my garage. Now the spare key would not turn the ignition switch again. The dashboard say to remove the key.
I called the MB road side service this time. The guys said to my wife it is the ignition switch since the battery is good. I have been reading a lot of forums and getting some other info.
What can I do to fix this issue.
Can I order the ignition switch, which I know are programed to the car? Do I need to have the car programed in the dealer or the EIS comes with the green key to program the EIS with my old key. Or should I order a EIS with a new key.
Thanks

Try first getting a new key, if is not the problem, replace the EIS (programed at the dealer with an orange key) & you should leave your 2 old keys with the new one to match the new EIS
Before the prgrammer key are green, now is orange. but this key is only to remove the transporter protection to the new EIS units, not to program the keys.
Try firs a new key, i think the problem is the key. if not. you need to leave the car to the dealer to change/program a new EIS with your own keys

You might try to polish the red plastic end of the key and clean the part of the ignition switch where the key goes in. The code inside the key is read by the ignition switch through the red plastic.
