Question What is this??

(This is not my actual picture, too dark outside for the pic, but I have the same engine)

The part that is circled in red, I just noticed today it was making a clicking sound. When I'd touch it, I can feel the clicks. I turned off the car, and started it back on, it wasn't clicking. But I lately noticed it quite a few time.

What is it? Whats it for? If its going out, anything negative it will do to a car? How bad is it that its broken? From what it seems like, its some kind of plug, relay, or a sensor, no idea. And I think it has 2 wires coming from it. Thanks in advance!

That is the purge valve. A little ticking is normal. If it is too loud, then you can try to clean it first. Go to benzworld and look for procedures in the W210 forum.

Yeah, the ticking is normal. Most people think they have a ticking valve in the engine, but it's really this.

I thought the same exact thing, I started to think it was coming from the engine, until I noticed it was coming somewhere from the fender side
