Need Left O2 Sensor b4 Cat.....Help
I got a check engine a couple week ago. then it went away. Came back again. Had them run for codes and they told me left O2 sensor before the cat. ![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)
What does that effect?
Can i go a couple weeks before fixing or fix immediately?
What is my next move?
Ive checked many threads on the issue and im a little confused, please help.
Thanks in advance.

Well, eventually it will destroy your cat which is a lot more expensive than an O2 sensor. O2 sensors often need replacement at about 100K. I would replace it ASAP since engine will run rich and overheat the cat causing a meltdown. ![EEK!](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif)
Pretty easy to replace. Look down near the rear of the engine on that side and you can see it. Be sure to replace it with the correct Bosch sensor. For DIY you'll need a special O2 socket or a crowsfoot. 22mm or 7/8".

The correct sensor is, I believe, Bosch #13862. Google that and you'll find it's widely available for about $80. This is the one which has the proper connector so no splicing required. If you are handy with a soldering gun you can get the one with a pigtail and splice it in saving a few bucks. A O2 sensor tool looks like a spark plug or deep socket except a portion is cut out along the side. That way you can position it over the sensor and the wire will pass thru the cutout. Of course, you'll need an extension and a ratchet.
There's probably a DIY over on benzworld worth reading.

(1999 E320) hi I had check engine light. hooked up odb2 scanner. got p0150. O2 sensor Bank 2 Sensor 1. This is located on driver side, pre-cat. I took a few pics with o2 begin removed and new one installed. You'll need a long socket extension, i used a o2 sensor socket remove ($13), a uni-direction connector (you need to to avoid having the socket extension rub against heat shield). Before starting spray a little wd40 on o2 nut.
