Vibration - Engine mounts or Flex disc

Well fellaz, I bought a 98' e430 past December and has approximately 255,000 kilometers. Previous owner said mounts would have to be changed down the road and was fine with it. But since drivingm, vibration was getting worse. did the least expensive first, rebalancing tires, etc and still there. Sometimes I feel a vibration on the steering or front but definitely have vibration on my @ss and rear passengers feel it too.

Did engine mount test and it failed, parts are on order. Im just thinnking... is it possible the vibration on the seats could be caused by the flex disc? from my search, vibration on the seats most likely comes from the rear. I just want this vibration to go away

Thanks for any input and/or advice....

Vibration in the rear definitely sounds like flex disc. There are two, one front and one rear.

Bad engine mounts will cause rough idle and acceleration hurts from the flexing.

Flex disc will cause vibration if you gas it and then let off and let it coast, in particular.

Thanks, I think I will just replace both mounts and rear flex disc and see if the vibration goes away..... Just trying to distinguish where the vibrations be on those old/worn/torn parts.

If one disc is due it would be a good idea to replace both at the same time. You have a lot of miles and years on those.

try to find out where the problem is coming from and replace those parts. No sense in replacing the flex disk if it's fine

I'll do the engine mounts first and see. It needs to be replaced anyways. If same vibration is there, then will change the flex disc. thanks fellaz...

Just curious,

How severe of a vibration are we talking about? My wagon vibrates some at highway speeds, but I've assumed that it is just the way the 4Matic system & stiff suspension respond to rough NW roads. I haven't driven anybody else's W210, so I don't have much to compare it to... other than a '93 Camry with 210k.

Finally got the mounts changed! Had trouble with top mounts due to the angle. But with a little patience finally got to turn a little which was all I needed to loosen it up! Driver side mount was shot, its the one on the right in the pic below with the new one in the middle! On to the flex disc tonight.

After changing the engine and tranny mounts, did notice it run a lot smoother but vibration on the seat still there.......

cbpeck, not quite sure exactly on the vibration from the mounts other than at idle and stops. Mine in particular is on the seat on your @ss which leads me to believe something in the rear. Almost feel like the wheels in the back are oval. Really noticeable around 40 mph but eases off a bit at 60 or so. Had to replace my mounts anyways as you can see from the pic.....

Did you drive the car in between changing the mounts and the flex disks? I recently changed my mounts including the trans mount. I noticed the flex disks were in need of changing as well. Their was such an improvement already, i'm trying to gauge how much doing the disks will be?

seems like no one has yet conquered this problem. I have the exact problem (99 E320 Base) I have read many posts that sugest throwing parts ( in most cases needed changing) but none the less problem still exist. its definately between the driveline (drive shaft system) and rear wheel bearings drawback for me is that I live in the islands dealership prices are trippled

is the driveshaft balanced on these cars , i owned a fleet of rigs and sometimes you would lose a welded on weight on the driveshaft which can cause a vibration....just a thought .
