97 E420 Water pump/Repair shop question--pretty urgent!!
I am away at school and have none of my tools and no place to really sit down and diagnose the problem (campus police doesn't like the idea of coolant all over their parking lots).
I also do not know of a trustworthy shop where I am (Baltimore/Towson, MD area) that I can bring it to.
Noticed on a cool night that the temp started climbing above the usual 80 oC. When it got up near the red line, I hit the defroster and it went back down to about 100 oC. Then the next day (had to drive it) I had to pull it over after it ran at about 100 oC in traffic then hit the red at highway speed, with the heat on full blast. Noticed a low coolant condition (was previously full) and coolant under the engine. Not sure if there was water around the pump. I did NOT notice any bad hoses or water around the t-stat. Water in the bottle does NOT indicate water flow when the throttle is opened/closed.
-Is it safe to say it's probably the water pump?
-Does anyone know of a good honest shop in the Baltimore/Towson, MD are that I could bring it to?
Thanks very much.
edit: Never any noise from the water pump.
